Classes
Classes are conducted in Jazz, Tap, Classical Ballet, Funk and Creative
Movement. All styles except for the Creative Movement have classes for beginners
to advanced and child to adults. On occasions, we also have stretching or
Pilates classes. The minimum age at which a child may begin classes is three
year old.
Creative Movement class has been specifically designed for the 3 5 age groups.
It combines Classical, Jazz and Mime dance to teach children the fundamentals of
movement and music. Favourite songs of children are used and dance games and
singing are incorporated into the lesson.
Hip Hop dancing is today's "fashion dance style" (constantly bombarding
audiences in advertising, music videos and TV). It appeals to all ages and is
socially acceptable to boys. It has a style and technique so different to any
other dance form that even teenagers who have no dance experience are not held
back by their lack of dance training. It does not require the suppleness and
technique of other dance styles and is therefore more accessible for all ages.
Hip Hop is taught from the B.B.D.S (Broken Beat Dance Syllabus) and examinations
are also available under this curriculum.
Open classes are for the more advanced dance students. These classes are
strictly for students who have finished all exam levels.
Singing group and private lessons are held to develop and enhance vocal and
performing skills including tone, pitch, volume, control and confidence.
Stretching and flexibility classes are held at various times. They are designed
to improve students flexibility. It is advised that students enrolled in and
above Grade 2 Ballet do at least one stretching class a week.
Tap, Classical Ballet and Jazz are available as separate forms of dance once a
child reaches the age of four or five. Each form of dance is very different and
interesting and teaches various aspects of the form to the students. It is
always recommended that students do all three dance forms if possible as they
build on each other. Students are taught B.A.L. and N.D.A. syllabus. Exams can
be taken yearly to improve technique and confidence.
Classes are designed for the skill level of students rather than their age. If a
student has the ability to handle more advanced work than their class peers,
they will be transferred to a higher class. At AMMA School of Dance, every
student is encouraged to do its best.
